2007 Ohio Motorcycle Awareness Rally

The 2007 Ohio M'cycle Awareness Rally at the Statehouse took place 5 May. The Governor, a mayor or two, several ABATE of Ohio representatives, and Imre Szauter from the AMA, each had something worthwhile to say. Among the audience were folks from all walks of life, including a long-distance bicycling member of the Right of Way working group -- he doesn't want to get run over either.

Before everyone arrived, Gov. Strickland came out and conversed with the few of us who had gotten to the Statehouse early. He mentioned S.B. 158 (the Right of Way bill), and expressed his support. Each of us had the opportunity to thank him for taking the time to meet us, and to share with him our most pressing m'cycling concerns. I used my opportunity to share an example of Health Insurance discrimination against m'cyclists. Gov. Strickland was receptive to everyone with whom he spoke.

The rain held off until after the rally. Spirits were good, and smiles were broad. I saw no other reporters, and the event was not mentioned in the paper the next day. Good thing we 'rate' with the Governor! --
